Okay, now for prices.
There are three ways to go – clear resin, amber translucent resin and opaque resin.
Over here, clear resin sells for about £42.50 per kg incl. shipping. This resin has a very slight blue tint though. The crystal clear ones I found were about £68 per kg(and above)! I think the complexity here is that most clear resins are extremely sensitive and require temperamental addition cure silicone for molding. Thus, the ones that can be casted with easy to use condensation cure silicone are expensive.
Amber translucent resin sells for about £32 per kg incl. shipping.
Opaque resin sells for about £20 per kg incl. shipping.
You can see the difference between all three below.
The clear parts of Ymir (head, arm, mace, body) weigh about 3kg. The opaque parts (base, sword, accessories) weigh about 1.5kg.
Clear resin Ymir would cost (£42.5 x 3) + (£20 x1.5) = £157.5
Amber translucent Ymir would cost(£32x3)+(£20x1.5) = £126
All opaque resin Ymir would cost (£20x4.5) = £90
I have subsidized mold making costs so that they add only £10 to the cost of each cast. Mold making actually cost me £638.05 in total. The more people buy however, the better for me...
So grand total is:
Clear resin Ymir = £167.5/218 euros/$271
Amber translucent Ymir = £136/177 euros/$221
All opaque Ymir = £100/130 euros/$162
Although it may not look like it, because I have waived most of the molding costs, you are getting a really good deal here. Ymir is 12 inches tall, by 11 inches wide of 4.5 kg/10lbs of solid resin. Comparing just opaque resin prices alone, he is much cheaper per kg of resin than many of the kits I see on various hobby sites.
(I must say here that I don’t understand how sellers break even in this business! General costs of mold making and resin casting seem ridiculously high to me...)
