I just built myself a spray booth. I have kids in the next room and I spray lacquers and acrylics, so it was essential :
1. I built the booth out of chipboard. I used parts from an old Ikea wardrobe. the roof was made from MDF.
2. I bought a Dayton 4C870 blower. A nice healthy 495 CFM.
3. I reused the electric cord from an old iron and wired neutral to neutral(blue wire) and live to live(red wire). The blower is earthed via its metal case. I plugged it into a power strip that has a switch so I can turn it off and on easily.
4. I cut a circular hole in the MDF roof the size of the intake of the blower. I screwed the blower to the MDF roof using the screw holes around the intake.
5. I bought some 12V LED strips off ebay and glued them to the underside of the roof. Nice even lighting.
6. I cut a 150mm hole in another MDF piece, screwed the piece to the exhaust of the blower, bought a 1 m long 150mm dia plastic pipe off ebay and duct taped it to the MDF piece
7. I bought a circular to rectangular plastic pipe adapter off ebay and fixed it to the end of the pipe. It reduces the noise of the blower and also allows me to open the window just enough to fit the adapter through. Great for winter time!
8. Blower works beautifully. I can spray in my hobby room without waking up my kids in the next room. I hardly smell anything and overspray is zero, but still use a mask as I haven't fitted any filters in the booth.
